An in-depth study and and evaluation of healthcare in overseas Episcopal dioceses highlights the complexity of healthcare in these countries. In nearly every country, the presence of a national healthcare system does not guarantee that clergy and lay employees have access to adequate healthcare. Findings include the following:
- A national or government healthcare system exists in nearly every overseas Episcopal diocese.
- Government healthcare systems have serious issues regarding access, quality, adequacy and affordability of healthcare services.
- Adequate healthcare services are often available only to those with private health insurance.
- A typical clergy salary in most of overseas diocese is between $200 and $400 per month.
- The average private health insurance program costs approximately $500 and $600 per month for family coverage.
- No single carrier (e.g., BlueCross) serves all of these countries. Solutions must be specific to each diocese.
Research and analysis will continue through 2008.
