With healthcare costs rising rapidly and justice issues surrounding health benefits for active church employees, the 75th General Convention authorized the Church Pension Group to study the feasibility of healthcare coverage for the church.
In December 2008, CPG will release the findings and recommendations of its 2-1/2-year study in the Report to the 76th General Convention (The Blue Book).
Led by an advisory committee of the Church Pension Fund Board of Trustees and its Chair, David R. Pitts, the 2-1/2-year study has been:
- Gathering comprehensive, confidential data from dioceses and congregations (including cathedrals, missions, and chapels), and the Episcopal Church Medical Trust
- Evaluating other denominations' experiences providing healthcare coverage
- Analyzing the economics of today's healthcare industry
- Evaluating the church's current approach to providing employee healthcare benefits
- Analyzing past, current, and projected costs
