Benefit Payments

  •

The Short-Term Disability benefit equals 70% of your total compensation as reported to the Church Pension Fund, with a maximum benefit of $1,000 per week.

This benefit is paid to your employer, who is required to continue your compensation in full while receiving it.

(If you are able to work part time but have lost at least 20% of your earnings, the disability benefit will compensate your employer for up to 70% of the wages you've lost up to $1,000 a week.)

If your disability lasts more than six months, the Pastoral Care & Education Department will contact you to discuss alternatives. If the disability is expected to be total and continuing, disability retirement through the Clergy Pension Plan might be appropriate.

Benefits are not paid when the disability is:
  • not under the care of a doctor.
  • caused by war or act of war, either declared or undeclared.
  • due to intentionally self-inflicted injuries.
  • a result of active participation in a riot.
  • due to participation in a crime or misdemeanor.
Benefits are paid monthly for up to 52 weeks of disability. (Your disability must be certified by claims representatives periodically during that time.) The first payment is issued on 61st day of disability and covers the preceding four weeks.
