If you are in the process of getting a divorce, your divorce settlement may affect your pension benefits. Your final divorce decree may require you to assign a portion of your pension benefit to your former spouse.
To help you understand the assignment options available to you under the clergy pension plan, please download and review the memo below.
If a portion of your pension benefit is assigned to your former spouse, there are both tax and legal reasons for creating a Qualified Domestic Relations Order (QDRO). A QDRO is a domestic relations order, approved by the court granting your divorce, assigning to your former spouse the right to receive all or a portion of the benefits payable to you under the terms of the plan.
Before you submit your QDRO to the court, the Church Pension Fund's Office of the General Counsel must approve it.
You or your attorney should download and review the QDRO procedures below. We recommend that you use the downloadable Model QDRO form below and have it approved by the fund's Office of the General Counsel before you file it with the court. Please note that we cannot provide information regarding your pension benefits to a third party unless you execute a consent form. (You may download the consent form below.)
