Two-Year Own Occupation
For the first two years of disability, you may receive Long-Term Disability Insurance benefits if you are unable to work in your own occupation for which you are reasonably fitted by education, training or experience. After two years, disability is defined by your ability to be gainfully employed in any occupation. In some cases, this change reduces the benefit.
Three-Month Survivor Income benefit
If you die after receiving long-term disability benefits for at least six months, your beneficiaries or estate will receive a lump sum of three times your monthly benefit.
Rehabilitation services
In some cases, FirstUNUM recommends worksite modifications to allow you to continue working. If you can no longer work in your own occupation, FirstUNUM will help you train for another occupation, if appropriate.
