Benefit Payments

Long-Term Disability Insurance

To receive benefits for Long-Term Disability Insurance, an employee must be under the care of a physician, and the disability must be certified periodically by a claims representative.

How long payments continue depends on the employee's age at the time the disability occurs and how long he or she meets the definition of disability.

At the time of disability, if the employee is:

  • Under age 60, benefits may continue up to age 65, while the disability continues.
  • Age 60 to 64, benefits may continue for up to five years.
  • Age 65 to 69, benefits may continue up to age 70, or for at least a year if the employee is 69-1/2 when disabled.
  • Age 70 and older, benefits may continue for one year.
