For an employee to enroll in Long Term Disability Insurance, he or she must be a clergy person or lay employee working for pay at least 20 hours a week for an Episcopal institution.
Employees are covered for disability from the first day they or their employer enrolls them in the plan.
Enrollments should be made within 60 days after the date of hire.
Enrollments after 60 days require a health statement and are processed by UNUM for approval.
The review process for eligibility is entirely independent from the process used to review applicants for clergy disability retirement benefits.
