While each coverage option for an auto policy has its own conditions and exclusions, mandated liability coverage excludes the following:
- Liability for work-related injury (to be addressed by a Workers' Compensation policy).
- Damage to property owned or transported by the policyholder, or property in an insured's care, custody or control (address within a property insurance policy).
- Claims arising from the handling of property before or after being placed into or onto the covered auto.
- Liability arising from the use of mobile equipment, normally addressed within a General Liability policy.
- Liability for pollution, as created when a vehicle containing toxic or hazardous materials overturns and discharges its contents, for example. Pollution liability exposure is never included in conventional liability policies and can only be insured through a special policy.
