How Clergy Benefit

Before and after retirement 

 

Participation in the pension plan offers financial protection for clergy and their families while they are working, as well as when they retire. Benefits1 include:

  • Monthly pension benefit at retirement
  • Disability protection for total and continuing disability
  • Surviving spouse or second adult beneficiary benefit from 0% to 100% of the clergy pension, depending on the choice made at retirement
  • Child benefits for surviving dependent children up to age 25, and for disabled children
  • Life insurance up to $50,000 while active, up to $30,000 in retirement
  • Lump sum death benefit of $5,000 for eligible clergy before retirement
  • Resettlement allowance up to $20,000 to help with the transition costs of retiring
  • Cost of living increases voluntarily provided by CPF to help maintain retirees' purchasing power
  • Clergy Christmas benefit of $25 times credited service up to 40 years

1Subject to vesting and other eligibility requirements. In addition to pension benefits, CPF provides a health benefit for retired clergy who qualify.
