Denominational Health Plan Approved

  •

The 76th General Convention has passed Resolution A177, establishing a Denominational Health Plan (DHP) for the Episcopal Church, to be administered by the Episcopal Church Medical Trust (the Medical Trust).

View the Resolution.

The plan will roll out gradually over the next three years, with employers participating by December 31, 2012. This schedule provides a three-year time frame for domestic dioceses, parishes, and institutions to make decisions and manage change appropriately. Some dioceses have already decided to implement the DHP by January 2010.

This action comes after three years of comprehensive research and analysis by CPG and the Medical Trust, conducted under the leadership of David R. Pitts, Chair of the Church Pension Fund Board of Trustees and the board’s Healthcare Coverage Feasibility Study Advisory Group.

During CPG’s Church-wide Healthcare Benefits Feasibility Study, much work was done regarding benefits for Province IX,* with the result that, aside from Puerto Rico, Province IX will continue to work on its health benefits solution with CPG, on a country-by-country basis.

All of us at CPG are grateful for the Church's vote of confidence. We are pleased that the Church will realize significant cost-savings through DHP, and that all eligible clergy and lay employees will enjoy the Medical Trust's superior benefits and services.
