Suggestions for an effective process
- See that all involved in the process receive the three-hour Safeguarding God's Children training. The program explains why the policy areas and specific provisions in the model policies help protect children and youth.
- Review Resolution B008 from the 2003 General Convention.
- Review the 2003 House of Bishops Pastoral Letter on Child Sexual Abuse (2003 General Convention Resolution X031).
- Review and discuss Frequently Asked Questions about the Model Policies.
- Review and discuss the diocese's current child sexual abuse policies. Talk about what has worked well and what needs to be changed.
- Review your state's child abuse reporting law, sex offender registry information, and information on obtaining criminal records in your state. Some information about these topics is contained in Appendix D and Appendix E to the Model Policies.
