Lay employee pension system approved
With the 76th General Convention's approval of Resolution A138, the Church Pension Fund will now become the sole administrator of the lay employee pension system of The Episcopal Church.

The Church Pension Fund provides pension and related benefits to Episcopal clergy, their eligible surviving spouses and adult beneficiaries and dependent children.
With this defined benefit plan, retirement benefits are determined at the time of retirement, based on compensation and years of service, and they are assured for the duration of retirement.

Two plans
Episcopal Church employers may choose between two kinds of pension plans for lay employees: a defined benefit plan and a defined contribution plan.
In 1991, General Convention resolved that all Episcopal Church organizations would provide pension benefits to lay employees, and that dioceses would see that they do.
