The primary role of the Church Pension Group’s (CPG) Investment Department is to ensure our ability to fund pension and related benefits for the participants and beneficiaries of various pension and other benefit plans sponsored by The Church Pension Fund (CPF). This responsibility extends for many decades into the future, which is why our investment program focuses on stable long-term investments that can deliver solid investment returns. The CPF Investment Department works with different investment managers and funds that bring unique insights and approaches to identifying attractive investments we believe will generate the desired long-term returns. As of September 30, 2017, CPF’s investment assets were approximately $12.9 billion, higher than they were a year earlier ($12.0 billion), with $4.0 billion invested in public equities, $3.7 billion in fixed income, and $5.2 billion in alternative investments. For the five years ended June 30, 2017, we are achieving our desired results, with CPF generating 9.0% versus 7.8% for the global benchmark that we reference to gauge our performance.
We use our status as an investor to support Episcopal Church values in three ways:
- Positive impact investing,
- Shareholder engagement, and
- Thought leadership
