Vermont Governor Phil Scott Visits The Church Insurance Companies
It is not every day that CPG has the opportunity to host a governor at one of our offices. Last August, however, Vermont Governor Phil Scott brought his Capitol for a Day initiative to Bennington, Vermont, and met with employees of the Church Insurance Companies (CIC). He was joined by the Commissioner of the Vermont Department of Financial Regulation and other members of his cabinet.
“It was an honor to host Governor Scott and his cabinet,” CIC’s Senior Vice President and General Manager Bill Murray said. “The visit gave us an opportunity to explain the important work we do on behalf of the Church and to share our thoughts on doing business in Vermont.”
Bill and his senior leaders provided the governor with an overview of CPG and CIC and explained CIC’s efforts to offer property and liability coverage to more than 90 percent of Episcopal dioceses and churches.
“I thought the experience was fantastic,” Billing and Collections Team Leader Kelly Stork commented. “I believe this initiative strengthens the connection between businesses and the government and builds trust.”
Bill shared recent changes at CIC. Since his appointment in the fall of 2016, he has implemented a business strategy focused on improving operational efficiencies and identifying ways to lower expenses. These efforts have included renegotiating the terms of CIC’s reinsurance arrangements, creating savings of $5 million (or 25 percent) on our reinsurance program; entering into an agreement to automate critical property and casualty processes and increasing the efficiency of CIC’s underwriting, billing, finance, and accounting functions; and introducing a Direct Repair Program that requires contractors performing repair work for our clients to be vetted by a third-party vendor to ensure that they have the appropriate insurance to safeguard their work.
Bill explains, “Our goal for these initiatives has been to ensure the sustainability of CIC so that we can continue to offer our clients the service they have come to expect for today and for decades to come. We want our clients to see a faster resolution of claims and greater satisfaction in the work being performed.”
