CPG Connect

At Church Publishing Incorporated (CPI), our publishing program has grown in both reach and impact. Our authors aren’t simply publishing books. They are providing spiritual tools for navigating a complex world, and helping shape today’s theological, cultural, and ethical landscape.

Having deep and meaningful relationships and finding joy are critical, especially in turbulent times. Rachel Glik, the author of A Soulful Marriage, shared a powerful essay in The Wall Street Journal, where she explored how prioritizing herself and her marriage ultimately strengthened her relationship with her children. Both the essay and her book, a guide for couples seeking to create deep connections, struck a chord, and Glik expanded on its themes in a televised interview on NBC News Daily.

Meanwhile, Nicolet Bell, the author of Choosing Cheer, shared how being intentional about finding joy shaped her own life on two talk shows with 12 million viewers. Her revelations and her book have resonated deeply with readers.

Russell J. Levenson Jr., a former Rector of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church and author of In God’s Grip and the forthcoming Witness to Belief, has a long history of inspiring others to reflect on their faith and deepen their spiritual connection. He recently continued that conversation in a profile in Village Living magazine, which offered a window into the types of authors we publish—writers who provide wisdom, compassion, and courage.

And Catherine Meeks, author of multiple books about dismantling racism, and winner of The President Joseph R. Biden Lifetime Achievement Award, was highlighted during a recent appearance on the Faith and Justice Book Group podcast. Her books are a wonderful resource for the work of destroying discrimination around the Church.

Guided by our goal of providing resources that enrich spiritual lives while nurturing cultural heritage, we are publishing Wakan Cekiye Odowan / The Dakota Hymnal. For the first time since it was authorized in 1893, people will have access to a comprehensive collection of hymns in the Dakota / Lakota language, ensuring that its deep spiritual traditions will endure for future generations.

Among our Episcopal resources that have received critical acclaim, Wilda C. Gafney’s series, A Women’s Lectionary for the Whole Church, won an Award of Excellence from The Religion Communicators Council—just one of many accolades this series has earned. Meanwhile, Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe praised Education for Ministry: 50 Years of Engaging, Responding, and Reflecting, which is being published to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the program. He also wrote a foreword for the upcoming Wisdom, Knowledge and Faith, a book of essays on the future of theology and the Church.

It’s a great privilege to support these books and voices, and to continue creating space for reflection, dialogue, and hope.

Facing Division with Love and Hope

In February at the 2025 Episcopal Parish Network Kansas City Workshops, CPI hosted a timely and well-attended workshop featuring the Rt. Rev. Allen Shin and members of the House of Bishops Theology Committee to address a growing issue in the United States: Christian nationalism.

Drawing from the findings of the committee’s report and CPI’s book, The Crisis of Christian Nationalism, the panel—which included the Rt. Rev. Larry R. Benfield (ret.), the Rev. Dr. Canon Altagracia Pérez-Bullard, and the Rev. Dr. Katherine Sonderegger—revealed the theological, social, and spiritual challenges posed by this ideology. With clarity and conviction, they explored the ways this movement distorts the gospel and fuels division. Best of all, they offered practical insights into how Episcopalians can counter these divisive forces by embodying Christ’s message of unity and justice and fostering communities rooted in inclusivity and the transformative power of love.
