Since joining Church Insurance Companies (CIC) in May as Vice President of Client Services, Seraina Lamlin, the field representative for the mid-Atlantic region, has been on the go. She has visited Episcopal institutions to help address safety concerns before they lead to accidents, claims, or costly repairs.

During a recent Episcopal Safety Program consultation, Seraina met with church leaders who hoped to use their historic building to expand community outreach programs. However, falling ceiling tiles and signs of foundation movement posed potential safety and liability risks.

Seraina worked with the congregation to implement practical, affordable options to reduce immediate hazards, such as replacing expired batteries in fire alarm devices and other small safety deficiencies that, if left uncorrected, could increase risk. At the same time, the congregation pursued diocesan grants and other funding sources for the larger structural repairs, helping to protect parishioners and keep plans for expanded community outreach on track.

"Many congregations are focused on ministry and serving their communities," Seraina said. "They may not think about how a maintenance issue could become a safety concern or lead to a claim. Our role is to help them identify those risks early and find practical solutions that fit their resources."

Seraina says CIC differs from traditional insurers because its sole focus is serving Episcopal institutions. "We're invested in their long-term success. Whether that's connecting them with resources, helping them develop safety practices, or walking through a property to identify concerns before someone gets hurt, our goal is to support the people and ministries that make these communities thrive."
